The recall of "wet" dog and cat food sold in cans and pouches started on March 17, 2007. It now has spread from one large manufacturer in based in Canada, Menu Foods Inc., to other firms including Hill's and Purina.

Given the critical importance of this issue to dog and cat health in North America, we have prepared a special article on the status of the recall as of March 31, 2007. It is published as a news article here.

You will find links to the lists of recalled foods as well as the latest companies that are recalling the gravy style foods. One one dry cat food is involved.

The article also has advice from veterinarians at the American Veterinary Medical Association and at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

While the official count of pet fatalities is low, one team of veterinarians and dog writers asked pet owners to report pet deaths they believed were due to the tainted food. There are links to this information in article for your review. Self-reported data has its limitations, but we wanted you to have the chance to consider the larger impact of this problem.
